The Chase

They went round and round the cottage - a brown flash followed by a white one. The baby sambhar was tiring and yelping out for help as Mucchi (a dog) was barking and snapping at its heels. For a few moments they would appear in our sights and then they would disappear behind the cottage and then all we could hear was the sambhar yelping and the dog barking. Had the dog caught up with the sambhar? Was it callingout for help? We could only speculate. Adn then the brown furball was in sight again for the third time. Mucchi was almost alongside the sambhar. Behind them was Daya who was trying to get hold of the dog so that it would not maim the sambhar. And then Mucchi made its move and sank its teeth into the ears of the young sambhar. The sambhar was howling and trying to shake the dog free. The sambhar was running with the little dog attached to its ear. Before it could do any more damage Daya managed to grab the dog pull it off and the sambhar scampered off somewhere into the woods as a disappointed mucchi looked on.
(This is a chase that we witnessed while we were at the Jilling estate)
